Silver healing ... what it is all about

About Siloxit Gel

Siloxit Gel is an all-purpose healing gel used in the treatment of blisters, boils, abrasions, bedsores, cuts, burns, acne, rashes, severe sunburn, infections, etc.

The Gel is a combination of colloidal silver (30 ppm) and hydrogen peroxide and it is these two ingredients, which combined, help to heal wounds while fighting infection.

About silver as a healing agent:

As far back as ancient Greece and Rome, healers have been well acquainted with the fact that silver can be used for the treatment of infections and wounds. They used silver in wound healing, to disinfect water and food and to treat burns. By the 1920’s the American Food and Drug Administration approved silver for use as an antibacterial agent. In modern medicine, the use of silver containing wound dressings is well established clinical practice and is used all over the world.

Silver is a very effective antiseptic and has also been shown to kill a variety of germs. What is more, silver in small doses over a prolonged period, is non-toxic, making it an excellent choice to help to limit the infections on wounds. Feel free to click here to read one of the scientific studies done on the antibacterial effect of silver. The study proves that colloidal silver is effective as an antibacterial agent against Staph, Candidas, Salmonella and Psuedomonas in laboratory studies (in-vitro ).

How silver helps healing:Silver for wound care – the antiseptic action

As very active molecules, silver ions can pierce bacterial membranes quickly and effectively. They then interact with the proteins and enzymes in the bacteria. This interaction leads to cellular distortion which in turn leads to loss of viability of the bacteria (the bacteria dies). Silver ions also affect the cell wall of the bacteria, It binds to the DNA and RNA and this causes the bacteria to stop replicating or replicate at a slower rate.

The discovery of “Moist Wound Healing”

George D Winter, a British scientist published a study in 1962 where he compared wound healing under dry conditions versus wound healing under moist conditions. He found that the skin produced cells (epithelisation) more than twice as fast under moist conditions than under dry conditions (i.e. under a scab). Today, moist wound healing is widely used in the medical profession and numerous products exist which were developed for chronic wound healing using “moist wound therapy”.

Siloxit Gel:

The fact that Siloxit Gel is a gel base containing colloidal silver in at least 30 ppm, makes it a very effective agent in the treatment of wound since it harnesses “moist wound healing” technology coupled with the anti-sceptic properties of hydrogen peroxide. The silver particles contained in the gel are directly available to the open wound or infection, thus enabling the healing action described above while the peroxide aids this healing action and both components are non-toxic and hypoallergenic, thus Siloxit Gel can be used on any skins type.

Directions for use:

General application for wounds and infections:

Siloxit Gel works best in direct contact with the damaged or inflamed skin.  Apply a thin layer and allow to dry. Repeat after about four hours.

Blisters and other areas exposed to continuous chafing e.g. braline:

Apply a thin layer of Siloxit Gel and allow to dry ± 30 seconds.  Apply a thin layer of Loobit to help protect the skin from further chafing.  Most sportspersons experience chafing repeatedly in certain areas.  To aid those areas even though no damage is visible, treat with Siloxit and Loobit once a day for a week before your next race.

Tip for older ladies:  To tauten loose skin (face, hands, neck, elbows, etc.) apply a thin layer of Siloxit Gel, allow to dry thoroughly, mix a teaspoon of Loobit with a half teaspoon of water, stir and apply as a moisturiser.  Wait 30 minutes to dry off and apply makeup if used.

Note:  Siloxit Gel causes a slight degradation of the waxes contained in Loobit so if you treat an area with Siloxit Gel just before or during a race, you may need to reapply Loobit after ± 40km.

If you have any problems or questions, please feel free to contact us.  We have an in-house pharmacist and a chemist who have developed many products now in use by top pharmaceutical companies.

Acne:
Wash face well and dry well. Apply thin layer of Siloxit Gel twice a day. Once in the morning and once just before bedtime.
